Flags Australia’s
ICV 26 Organising Committee is very
pleased to announce the “going live”, today, of the
on-line
publication of the Proceedings of the 26th International
Congress of Vexillology - Sydney Australia, 31 August - 4 September
2015.
After 6 years of assembling and preparing the Proceedings, by
Tony Burton, Ralph Bartlett and Ralph Kelly, this is one of three
formats that the Proceedings are being published in, being;
a USB Memory Stick (being posted out to every Congress Registrant,
commencing immediately after this weekend), on-line from today, and
at a later date, a physical “on demand” printed
version.
The Proceedings are set up in a a series of PDF documents,
each of which can be viewed, printed and / or individually downloaded
to the user’s personal computer, or other personal electronic
devise. I should like to acknowledge and thank Flags Australia
President and Webmaster, Ralph Kelly, who has made it possible for
all of the previous ICV 26 website’s contents to be archived
and now the ICV 26 Proceedings to be available through the
Flags Australia’s website.
That the papers delivered at the 27th
International Congress of Vexillology (ICV27) are available free to
view
or download from the FI website. Held in London in 2017, and
hosted by the Flag Institute on behalf of the Fédération
internationale des associations vexillologiques (FIAV), ICV27
brought together 43 speakers from 23 different nations. Their
collected papers offer almost 800 pages of vexillological riches,
with over 1,000 captioned illustrations, and surely have something
for everyone.
Topics covered include:
how we use our current flags, and how we could design new ones;
national flags, past and present — from Africa, the Americas,
Asia and Europe;
community flags, past and present — from Bulgaria, Canada,
Central America, Georgia, Germany, the Irish Republic, Italy, the
Netherlands and the USA;
sporting flags — flown at the Olympics, on Czech rivers, and
in Irish and Soviet stadiums;
flags in art, education and politics — from the diverse
cultures of Australia, Brazil, Malaysia and the Soviet Union;
sources of vexillological information, new and old
hundred of flags, indeed, but also some provocative, perhaps
controversial, views on the present and future of vexillology.
