The commune of Mtsamboro or M'Tsamboro (7,705 inhabitants, 1,641 ha) is located in the north of the island of Grande-Terre and includes the three villages of Mtsamboro, Mtsahara and Hamjago.

Mtsamboro has an important place in the history of Mayotte because it was the first capital of the Shirazi Sultanate, welcoming the first Sultan of Mayotte, Athumani ben Mohamed, at the end of the 15th century. During the Sultanate, Mtsamboro was the island's main trading port. The capital of Mayotte was transferred to Tsingoni in 1538 by Sultan Haïssa.
