Coat of Arms

Shield Or, a windmill wheel Sable rigged Azure, in chief an orbicular cross Gules at dexter and a Maltese cross Argent fimbriated Sable at sinister, issuant from base a triplemount Vert. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll (Bénard Guedes style) with inscription in black capitals "CUMEADA".
Meaning:
The orbicular cross is the Cross of the Order of the Templars. It represents the fact that the Order of the Templars was the owner of the commandery of Sertã, which includes the parish of Cumeada. Little or nothing is known about the settlement of the territory of the parish of Cumeada; it is known that the area that currently corresponds to its territory has always belonged to the commandery of Sertã, which was in the possession of the Templars until 1174, when King Dom Afonso Henriques handed it over to the Order of the Hospital. The historical notes that are known regarding the parish were taken from a charter of King Dom João VI, dated 1806, in which the king orders the demarcations of the parish of Sant´Ana, which according to some historians, when it was instituted, there was already a hermitage in its veneration. The aforementioned demarcations made by the king satisfied a request from the residents of the places closest to the chapel, for the introduction of the salary for a chaplain, which Dom João recognised to be of the greatest use to those populations; a new parish was thus created, which was initially baptised with the suggestive name of "Cumiada".
The Maltese cross represents the possession of a large part of the land of the parish by the Order of Malta. Even in 1803 many residents of Cardiga, one of the places in the parish, still paid fees to the Grand Prior of Crato, as can be seen from a presentation made in the same year, in which they were asked for forgiveness for being in misery, motivated by a great thunderstorm that destroyed fruits and property.
The millwheel represents agriculture, in particular the fact that Cumeada has a location suitable for the installation of windmills and others. It also represents the cultural heritage of the parish, the Roman bridge of Cova do Moinho, the bridge of Várzea Carreira, some crosses and shrines, an example of which is Our Lady of the Good Ways, as well as several mills and weirs.
The triplemount represents the toponym and geographical location of the parish. The toponym of this parish derives from the situation in which it is located, at the top of the mountain, on a small but very fertile plateau, surrounded by a ridge of peaks of different altitudes.
