Presentation of Maglaj

Maglaj was first mentioned in a charter issued in 1408 by King Sigismund of Luxembourg, titled "Sub castrum nostrum Maglay"; he resided there for a while during the war against the Bosnian King Stephen Ostoja. Until the recent war, the main industry in the town was the paper and pulp factory Natron. The town survived a long siege by the Serbian forces in the war (1992-1995).

The Populari database provides the adoption date of the emblem as 1960. This may be one of the very oldest municipal symbols in continuous unchanged use in this part of Europe.

The emblem (municipal website) pictures the town skyline with the year "1408" over a stylized "M" shape, symbolizing also paper industry.
